STEVE GARDINER

Steve S. Gardiner is President of Gardiner Associates, a third generation management development firm. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, he carries on the ninety one year family tradition of assisting individuals and organizations in building their capabilities. The firm specializes in leadership development, conflict resolution, team performance improvement, change management and “rapid coaching”.

 

Prior to relaunching Gardiner Associates, Steve spent thirteen years at a $2 billion pharmaceutical company, where, as Senior Director of Management and Organizational Development, he created and conducted leadership programs for every level of the organization. He earned a solid reputation for improving departmental and team performance through his energetic and immediately impactful team building sessions. In addition, he constructed a “rapid coaching” process that equipped clients with the capacity to accelerate their development.

Steve previously worked for International Paper/Champion International, where he managed the staff responsible for management education for the $27 billion forest and paper products company. While at Champion, he designed and delivered Interest Based Problem Solving workshops to join union-management groups. These industry breakthrough sessions aided in the transformation of the union-management relationship from adversarial to collaborative.

 

With conflict resolution credentials from Harvard, Cornell and Eckerd College and an M.A. in Conflict Resolution from Union Institute and University, Steve has extensive experience in teaching mutual gains problem solving and mediating interpersonal/interdepartmental disputes.

 

He earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Vermont and continued his professional development in programs at Harvard, the Universities of Chicago, Michigan, and Virginia, and the Aspen Institute. He holds thirteen professional certifications.

 

Steve is the four-time Chair of the Leadership Forum at Silver Bay, the country's longest running leadership conference. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of a family camp in Bear Mountain, NY.
